23rd Annual Northern Ontario Open Country Singing Contest Results Country Open Brings Out the Best Contestants!!! This year's 23rd Annual Northern Ontario Open Country Singing Contest draws about 76 competitors with contestants from Sault Ste Marie, Guelph, Ottawa, Windsor, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec,Timmins and many other communities in between with strong local support. In the First Round the audience, vendors and judges were entertained by many of today's top 10 country songs, however a few oldies were performed as a nice touch for crowd pleasers. The Karaoke 12 & under class (always a favorite) was well attended with 12 contestants. As a bonus this year we again had local entertainment with "Back in Tyme","John Cash (Wayne Miller Jr.)", "Widdifield Station" and "Lovin' Country". Saturday's Semi-finals (a real nail biter) where only the top "5" advancing in each classification will be performing on the stage for the finals. The 6 judges had their work cut out with high quality performances by each contestant. Sunday's Finals were again a real treat for everyone as the best of the best sang. 1st place - John Fraser (Guelph) 2nd place - Dan Sigouin (North Bay) 3rd place - Dale Griffiths (Sprucedale) 4th place - Craig Nesbitt (North Bay) 5th place - Asim Mainville (St. Charles) Karaoke 12 & Under 1st place - Augusta Campoli (Richmond Hill) 2nd place - Jenna Brunt (Sturgeon Falls) 3rd place - Kaitlyn Thibault (Sudbury) 4th place - Krystyn Morin (Noelville) 5th place - Jasmine Busscheart (North Bay) Also noted this weekend, a Contestant that has been participating for the past 15 years, Elisabeth Johnson from Schumacher who will be turning 85 this year took ill 2 days before the Country Open was recognized many times this weekend, many signed and sent messages on a large card that will be sent to Elisabeth for a speedy recovery.
